||Improving the System Responding to Refugees was a two year program developed to improve fundamentals of care for Somali Bantu Refugee children in Buffalo, New York.
The Emily Foster Health Sciences Library and the Women’s Clinic at The Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, Kaleida Health teamed with Jericho Road Family Practice to develop a basic health education curriculum for Somali Bantu mothers. The information was delivered to the Bantu mothers via “home visits” by a nurse, clinical informationist, and a Bantu interpreter.
The materials developed for the program include a policy and procedure manual, a picture book entitled “All About Health, and “Listen & Learn” (MP3) recordings in Maay Maay and Kizigua. All materials may be used freely with proper acknowledgement to Kaleida Health.
